History

For over twenty years Beyond the Edge has trained climbers, walkers and mountaineers. We are one of the UK’s most experienced providers of Mountain Training courses including the Lowland Leader, Hill and Moorland Leader, Mountain Leader, Climbing Wall Instructor, Climbing Wall Development Instructor and the Rock Climbing Instructor Awards. We also deliver the Rock Climbing Skills and Hill and Mountain Skills schemes from Mountain Training. Additionally, we run courses for the BMC for both clubs and individuals.

Based in Sheffield it is run by Alex & Chris who each have over 25 years of mountaineering experience, from the famous gritstone of their local edges to the 8000m peaks of the Himalaya.

The National Trust are looking for mentors to support aspiring walk leaders on the Walk Together pathway. The pathway is supporting individuals from the global majority to become Mountain Training qualified walk leaders, helping to increase representation in the outdoors.

What do mentors do?
· Listen and offer advice, feedback, guidance and inspiration
· Use their own expertise, knowledge, and wisdom
· Share links to useful resources and information
· Share connections and networks

You’d be the perfect mentor if you:
✔️ Are an experienced walk leader
✔️ Want to share knowledge and support others
✔️ Have a positive, understanding, and encouraging attitude

A lovely weekend saw groups Learning to lead, Bouldering, learning Hill Skills and of course partaking in the Outside Crag Cleanup.
The ruby red sun setting across the purple haze of heather was a fitting end to the weekend.
Well done to all those that made their first leads, didn't get lost, bouldered their fingers bare and made our crags cleaner than they were before.
