Climbing Wall Development Instructor
The Climbing Wall Development Instructor is a nationally recognised qualification which we run from Sheffield.
The CWDI scheme is administered by Mountain Training and covers the skills required to develop other climbers beyond the basic skills. This includes teaching lead climbing on indoor or outdoor artificial climbing walls and structures with fixed protection. It builds on the skills gained through either the Climbing Wall Instructor or Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications, one of which must be held in order to access the scheme.
With indoor climbing now featuring in the Olympics the sport is rapidly growing. Beyond the Edge run regular Climbing Wall Development Instructor training and assessment courses on the great walls we have in our home city of Sheffield.
Importantly our courses are fun and run in a friendly manner. We take great pride in the very high percentage of individuals who return for further courses.
Beyond the Edge are committed to ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to attend our courses. If you feel you may need additional support to attend, please do let us know so we can facilitate this. Mountain Training have a useful document which can be found here.
To gain the Climbing Wall Development Instructor qualification, a candidate must first register with Mountain Training then, complete a one day training course and subsequently after a period of consolidation, pass the separate CWDI assessment course. To register, you must already hold either the Climbing Wall Instructor or the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification.
If you need a quick refresh on any aspect of the Climbing Wall Instructor(CWI) or Climbing Wall Development Instructor (CWDI) syllabus or a reassessment we would be delighted to help you out. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
For groups of 2 or more climbers, bespoke Climbing Wall Development Instructor training and assessment dates and locations can be arranged. Please contact the office for more information.
