Mountain Training Climbing Wall Instructor Climbing Wall Instructor

The Climbing Wall Instructor is a nationally recognised qualification which we run from Sheffield. It is administered by Mountain Training and covers the skills required to safely supervise climbers on purpose built artificial walls and boulders.

With indoor climbing now in the Olympics the sport is rapidly growing. Beyond the Edge run regular Climbing Wall Instructor training and assessment courses on the great walls in our home city of Sheffield. So don’t delay book a course and start training your olympic prodigy…
Importantly our courses are fun and run in a friendly manner. We take great pride in the very high percentage of individuals who return for further courses.

In April 2018 the Climbing Wall Award changed its name to Climbing Wall Instructor in alignment with the renaming of other climbing qualifications administered by Mountain Training. The syllabus is virtually unchanged, and the remit, course length and broad structure is unchanged. For those with a Climbing Wall Award Training course no conversion is required.

The Climbing Wall Instructor and the optional abseil module is suitable for climbers who want to work with groups in the outdoor sector, schools or in the voluntary sector. It is also useful for individual climbers who want to expand their knowledge and become safer climbers, demonstrating good practice whilst climbing indoors.

Beyond the Edge are committed to ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to attend our courses.  If you feel you may need additional support to attend, please do let us know so we can facilitate this.  Mountain Training have a useful document which can be found here.

Please note there are minimum experience requirements for attending both Climbing Wall Instructor training and assessment. Full details are found under the eligibility tab of the courses.

To be awarded the Climbing Wall Instructor qualification a candidate must first register with Mountain Training then complete a training course. Subsequently after a period of consolidation, pass the separate assessment course. To attend training, you must, as an absolute minimum, have visited 3 different climbing walls on at least 15 different occasions and have led ten routes at Fr4. This should be recorded on DLOG.

Excellent delivery of training course (CWI) by friendly instructor, definitely worth it! Gert.
