Our courses are run in a friendly and relaxed manner. You don’t need to worry about your speed of learning or prior knowledge to thoroughly enjoy the course. With a comfortable training base we can also cope if the weather turns out less than helpful.

Beyond the Edge has been teaching navigation courses in the Peak District and further afield for over twenty five years. We know the best places and use tried and tested techniques to maximise your learning. In addition to the standard Peak District navigation courses we can provide bespoke navigation/map reading courses around the UK.  These can cover specialist navigational subjects including train the trainer, navigation for fell running and the use of GPS.

We also run the NNAS Tutor award for those who want to teach navigation under the auspices of NNAS.

For our night navigation and intro to navigation course we would like to offer a space where women can develop and practice their skills in a women’s only environment, learning from female instructors. If you would like to attend a women’s only course, you can do this as a bespoke course and we will provide a female instructor if you so desire.

Our base for navigation courses here in Grindleford (S32 2HS) in the Peak District is highly accessible, being only two and a half hours from central London by train. In addition to being stunningly beautiful, the Peak District is brilliant for learning navigation. The mix of gentle valleys and woodland coupled with the featureless moorland plateaus of Kinder and Bleaklow can be used to introduce map reading or push even the most experienced navigator.
