Tarmac to Trail Running
Leave the noise behind and head out into nature. Trail running is great both for physical and mental health and its easy to start having great fun.
This two day course looks at both the technical trail running skills and the navigation and safety knowledge so that you have a safe and rewarding trail run, time after time.
Who is it for ?
This Trail Running course is designed for those relatively new to the sport, or looking to formalise their knowledge with some instruction.
Tarmac to Trail – Course Overview
After introductions, we explore the safety and navigational skills that are needed to trail run safely.
We include what to carry for emergencies and how to manage an incident wether that’s a snapped ankle or something more serious.
On day two, we look training, nutrition and hydration and cover some running techniques both on the flat and the ups and downs and of course for that lovely mud! We do this whilst putting everything we have learnt into practice by trail running around the Peak District.
We finish the day looking at stretching and conditioning and how to prepare for your first trail event.
Beyond the Edge are one of the UKs most experienced providers of training courses for hills and mountains and our courses are both highly informative and run by hugely experienced trainers. Importantly in our opinion, they are also fun and run in a friendly manner. We take great pride in the very high percentage of individuals who return for further courses.
Tarmac to Trail – Course Format
We mix the theory and practical together over the two days so there is plenty of time to rest and learn. This is not a hard core running camp!
Day 1 We start at 9am with an introductory chat over a cuppa in our training room. Next we cover some navigational theory and a few fun exercises before heading out around the local area. The day is spent at a slower pace to concentrate on navigation. Oxygen pumping to the legs is not going to the brain so you learn less if we blast around. We also cover what to carry for emergencies and practice what to do in several scenarios. We aim to finish at around 4:30pm.
Day 2 Another 9am start and with our new found navigational knowledge we plan a route and then look at how to warm up before heading out. We practice our navigation and learn how to run on the wide variety of trail surfaces that the Peak District presents. This will include some gait analysis and coaching. On return, we rehydrate whilst discussing the benefits of a yoga and a stretching regime. We finish by looking at developing a training plan and how to prepare for and enter your first trail running event.
We aim to finish slightly earlier on the second day, at around 4pm to allow folk to travel home.
