NNAS Tutor Award – NNAS Courses
The NNAS Tutor is a one day workshop on teaching navigation.
ââŠa really interesting, thought provoking and practical course⊠It managed to strike an excellent balance between reinforcing the core concepts of the NNAS scheme and giving lots of practical strategies and techniques for really enhancing navigation coachingâŠâ  John
Who is it for ?
The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) Tutor Award is for those who either currently teach or want to teach navigation. It is also useful for those who are working towards a Lowland Leader,  Hill and Moorland Leader or Mountain Leader qualification.
NNAS Tutor – Course Overview
This teaching navigation workshop looks at skills and techniques that can be used to introduce or develop navigational skills both in the classroom and also outside. Throughout the day a wide variety of different techniques will be examined and the opportunity for candidates to share their experience and knowledge from their own practice will be given.
We mix inside and outside skills, practicals and teaching so that you leave the NNAS Tutor course with a wide variety of different techniques to cover most teaching navigation scenarios.
In addition to being a mandatory qualification for NNAS award providers, holders of the NNAS Tutor award are able to assist in the delivery of Bronze Navigator courses under the guidance of a NNAS course director.
Successful participants need to apply to NNAS following attendance at a NNAS Tutor course and prior to working for a course director or becoming a provider.
Successful completion of the NNAS Tutor award workshop also counts as 1 CPD point for Mountain Training Association members.

Can I run NNAS courses once I have passed the NNAS Tutor course?
Probably yes, but it is not automatic.
What you can teach depends on what qualifications you already hold. Details of what you can do if you hold a qualification can be found on the NNAS website here.
Successful completion of the NNAS Tutor Award will also enable (after approval by NNAS) those without a higher hill or mountain walking qualification, but with experience and interest in the outdoors, to help teach on a Bronze award under the guidance of a registered NNAS Course Director. They will be called âBronze Tutorsâ. In this case, once the NNAS Tutor Award is completed, an application by email to NNAS must be made and approved before that person assists on Bronze courses.
