Advanced Scrambling

Advanced Scrambling gets big air beneath you feet as you learn to tackle some of the most iconic scrambles in Snowdonia.

Individuals will develop their skills and confidence to cope with the more demanding Grade 2 and Grade 3 (Advanced) Scrambles. An Advanced Scrambling course is also a great way to learn or refresh the skills required for movement over alpine type terrain as a roped pair in preparation for a trip to Skye, the Alps or the Greater ranges.

Over the course of the two days you will move over some of the most iconic mountain terrain in the UK, developing your skills and confidence as you progress. As Beyond the Edge have a genuine passion for the mountains, if the weather is kind we won’t rush off the hill and with the volume of high quality scrambles available – well we might just sneak another one in. So, pop an extra snack in your bag and don’t book an early evening meal as we seek to get the most out of each day.

Who is it for ?

This two day Advanced Scrambling course is for confident hillwalkers with some experience of either scrambling or climbing.

Advanced Scrambling – Course Format

The exact course itinerary is flexible but, we guarantee you won’t be spending much time with your hands in your pockets as we spend both days on Grade 2 or 3 terrain.  During the course, you will cover the whole breadth of skills that are required for you to move safely on Grade 2 and 3 scrambles including:

  • How to navigate to and away from your chosen route;
  • The black art of route finding;
  • Basic rope work;
  • Safe and efficient movement on the route;
  • Abseiling and retreating from routes.

There are a huge variety of high quality routes available, some possible advanced scrambles are:

Another Grade 3, three star scrambling route on Glyder Fach although without any caving!

Clogwyn y Person Arete
A Grade 2/3, three star route that encompasses excellent scrambling and a traverse of Crib Coch on the descent back into Llanberis pass.
