MIC – Mountain Instructor Certificate, required for instruction of mountaineering both in summer and winter, including snow, ice and rock climbing.

MIA – Mountain Instructor Award, required for instruction of mountaineering, including all aspects of rock climbing.

Mountain Leader (Summer), required for leadership of hill walking parties in summer conditions. A pre-requisite for the MIA.

Mountain Leader (Winter), required for leadership of hill walking parties in Winter conditions. A pre-requisite for the MIC

CIC – Caving Instructor Certificate, required for the instruction of all aspects of caving

LCL – Local Cave / Mine Leader, required for leading groups in caves and mines. Level I, horizontal systems, Level II, vertical techniques.

SPA – Single Pitch Supervisor, required for the supervision of single pitch rock climbing and abseiling

Canoe Coach, required for instructing in canoes. Level 2, flat water, Level 3, moving water.

Kayak Coach, required for instructing in kayaks. Level 2, flat water, Level 3, moving water.

In addition, all staff hold a current First Aid qualification

 

Alex Ekins is a mountaineering instructor who has been climbing extensively and enthusiastically all over the world for over 15 years. He has a particular interest in climbing and mountaineering history and is involved in current access and conservation issues. Alex is a keen photographer and has had his work published in the climbing and outdoor press.

 

Chris Groves in addition to being a mountaineering instructor is also a kayak & canoe coach, local cave/mine leader and a qualified teacher. Chris has an interest in youth expeditions and has taken groups to South America, Africa, Asia and Alaska. When not in the outdoors Chris can be usually found catching up on the admin.

 

John Geeson has been involved in outdoor pursuits for the past 20 years. He is both a mountaineering and caving instructor, having participated in these activities around the world. John is also qualified in canoeing & kayaking and is a member of the Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation.

 

Jenny Harding is highly qualified canoe and kayak coach with 13 years of experience of paddling in both the UK and Europe. She is not only happy on water but also up a rock face, down a cave or in the hills. Jenny loves the outdoors and enjoys sharing this passion with others.

 

Mark Williams loves the mountain environment and has been an active climber and mountaineer for over 15 years. As well as being a mountaineering instructor, Mark is also qualified in caving and canoeing and is a member of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
